Rev. Msgr. Edward J. Scull

The Rev. Msgr. Edward J. Scull, age 90, of Brookfield, the retired Pastor of St. Pius X Church in Fairfield, passed away peacefully, Friday August 26, 2016. Born in Bridgeport, the son of the late Joseph and Marguerite Scull, he was a graduate of Central High School in Bridgeport and St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield. Msgr. Scull was ordained to the priesthood on May 3, 1951. He served on the faculty at Notre Dame Catholic High School in Fairfield and as Principal of the former Central Catholic High School in Norwalk. His first position as Pastor was at St. Gabriele Church in Stamford. On January 1, 1972 he was installed as Pastor of St. Pius X Church, retiring on January 1, 2002. Most recently Msgr. Scull had been in residence at St. Joseph’s Church in Brookfield where he participated as a weekend homilist. He enjoyed golfing with family and friends. Survivors include his sister, Mary Anne Dolan of Milford, four nephews; five nieces and ten great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Scull; a sister, Marguerite Cleary a brothers-in-law, Joseph Dolan and Francis Cleary and a sister-in-law, Veronica Scull. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Most Rev. Frank J. Caggiano, Bishop of the Diocese of Bridgeport on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield. Interment will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of the Scull family to St. Augustine’s Cathedral, 359 Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06604.   1. My deepest condolences to Monsignor’s entire family. Working alongside him for 16 years was the
    highlight of my entire musical career. He was tremendously supportive of the music program and so appreciated the many liturgies and concerts we shared together. He will never be forgotten.

  4. It has been such a great blessing to get to know Monsignore through has time at St Joseph’s. He was wonderful and strong spiritual leader whose kindness and wit made every encounter with him a very special one. He set examples for us in his faith, his courage, and his “never quit” spirit. We were so fortunate to have him at our parish and in our lives. May God bless him always.
