Michael B. Murphy

Michael B. Murphy, age 53 of Fairfield beloved husband of Kimberly Kral Murphy and devoted father of Micaela and Shane Murphy passed away tragically Sunday, August 27, 2017. Born in Bridgeport, the son of the late Dr. Robert J. and Margaret Mary Murphy, Michael was raised in Huntington and had been a Fairfield resident for many years. He was a 1982 graduate of Fairfield College Preparatory School, received his Bachelors degree from Marist College and an MBA from the University of New Haven. Michael was Vice President and General Manager of Alinabal in Milford. Mike was a member of the Gaelic American Club, the Patterson Club and the South Benson Marina. He served on the Board of Directors of Goodwill, the Gaelic American Club and the Connecticut Irish Open Scholarship Committee where he worked tirelessly chairing their Annual Irish Open Golf Tournament. Mike was a three-time recipient of the prestigious B.O.Y. Award. Mike had a tremendous love for music, especially Bruce Springsteen, the Red Sox, his family roots in Ireland, being on the golf course and celebrating any occasion with his family. He treasured his frequent trips to Ireland and spending time with his many friends. In addition to his loving wife Kim, and his children Micaela and Shane, he is survived by beloved brothers and sisters, Robert J. Murphy, Jr. and his wife Colleen of Lordship, Timothy F. Murphy of Stratford, Maura C. West and her husband Mark of Mequon, WI and Kathleen A. Dumouchel and her husband John of Walpole, MA; his loving in-laws, Richard F. and Vivian Kral of Bonita Springs, FL, formerly of Fairfield; two brothers-in-law, Richard F. Kral, Jr. and his wife Cynthia of Greenwich and Christopher J. Kral and his wife Lisa of Fairfield and 22 beloved nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, September 1, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Prior calling hours have been omitted. In lieu of flowers contributions in Michael’s memory may be made to the family of Chris Hughes. Chris was a dear friend who also died tragically in a boating accident. Michael, Kim, Micaela and Shane believed strongly in giving back to others. We believe Michael would be deeply touched by your generosity to them. 44. Well Frankie, we laid you to rest today…I think you were there. I felt you. Did you hear me inform you that the Red Sox lost to the Yankees on Thursday night? Kim and the kids did great ….Bobby and Rick gave a great eulogy. I planted my fat head into Luby’s chest and cried like a baby….who do I call now every day? Do you trust Shane with our betting pool? I will give him one year, I don’t care how tall he is. I don’t know….We ALL don’t know. I sang with Bobby Morrill today for you, I think it went okay. I plan to go to Shane’s games when I can, like you always did and like Doc Rock…It was 65 degrees and cool this morning and Bob Lilly was sweating! Man they said 1800 people were there, I did not notice, cause you were missing. We went from Penfield to the grape to the Irish club and duncey-doo tried Nobely to lead everyone in Steve O’Donnell’s wake, god bless him thats all I’ll say….Lube did great and you need to check in on him from up there cause he’s gonna have a hard time. Me? I’ll be alright I’ll look in on Frankie and Miceala when I can. You call me when you can , like Wednesday night when you asked me to sing… I’ll hear those calls, man I feel cheated….Tom Ryan was there and all the Prep guys. We are all broken up. Did you know Bappy has a 20 inch neck? WTF? that’s like a baby Hippo. Worried about him too. I’ll try to look in on all the people you looked after…big shoes to fill…I tried to get Bruce, I spoke to his agent – what a mangina! He was like- I get 1000 requests like this a week…he is on Arya Stark’s list now…Kim was a trooper and her great friends helped sooo much. It’s one day and I miss you so much- what do I do tomorrow? Can you please call me back tomorrow? I gotta go (to the bathroom) ….Frankie

  45. Dearest Kim,
It is with profound sadness that I write to you after all these years have gone by. However, I am sure that time has not tarnished your smile and warm heart. I am so deeply sorry for you and your children. I was at the Greenwich water club this summer for a swim and diving meet. I was scoring at the diving table when the announcer said next on deck, Rick Kral. In a moment, time stood still and we were kids again. I talked to your nephew and brother after the meet and they told me that your Mom was waging a battle against cancer. I drove home and thought about what a wonderful family you come from and how much I loved having them in my life, as a young girl. When I read Michael’s obituary I had the same feeling. His love of family, heritage and altruism was so evident. I wish I had know him and witnessed his life that he lived with his heart. Kim, I offer my friendship, shoulder and hand if you ever need me. I pray for you, Michael and your children. Lord hear our prayers. I am a fellow struggler and have also known what unexpected loss feels like, to the soul. If it gets dark and you want to talk…. Kathy Tibbitts

  46. 47. I am so sorry for your loss. May the words of our loving heavenly Father bring your family comfort and strength during this most difficult time as He promises to bring our loved ones back to life in a perfect world where there will be no more suffering or death (John 5:28-29 & Revelation 21:4).
