John T. Morris

John T. Morris, age 74, of Trumbull, CT (formerly of Weston, CT and Palm City, FL) passed away peacefully at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY on Thursday, August 30, 2018. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Laurie A. (Benolken) Morris.
Born in Vincennes, IN on July 11, 1944 to Rev. Robert William Morris and Nellie Fern (Junkin) Morris. John grew up in Vincennes and went on to attend Indiana University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master in Business Administration. John began his career in finance at Citibank in New York City where he eventually met the love of his life, Laurie. John held numerous senior positions in finance firms throughout his successful career. John was an avid golfer and a long time member of Aspetuck Valley Country Club in Weston. John extended his love of golf by becoming a rules official and a longtime volunteer official for the CSGA and USGA. Those efforts culminated in 2006 as the recipient of the CSGA’s Distinguished Service Award. Forever the humanitarian, John also donated significant time to multiple community service organizations, including as a board member of the United Way. John’s kindness and influence (including ever present nicknames) on everyone who interacted with him was limitless, but none more so than in his roles as husband, father, grandfather and brother-in-law. His unconditional love and devotion (and sense of humor) will live in the hearts of his family forever.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by his three devoted children, Jason T. Morris of Wilton, CT (Megan McWeeney Morris), Ryan W. Morris of Fairfield, CT (Erin Jones Morris) and Meghan P. Devine of Ardmore, PA (Brian P. Devine); his adored eight grandchildren: Sarah, Brendan, Caroline, Ella, Liam, Avery, Jackson, and Declan; and his numerous grateful in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday September 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Stephen Catholic Church in Trumbull, CT. Calling hours will be on Thursday, September 20, 2018 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Spear Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Way of Coastal Fairfield County (attention the John Morris Memorial Fund), 855 Main Street, 10th Floor, Bridgeport, CT 06604.
