Glenn R. Benton

Glenn R. Benton, age 94, of Fairfield, beloved husband of the late A. Susan Benton, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at the CT Hospice, Branford. Born in Fairfield, the son of the late Grover Cleveland Benton and Freida Belle Benton, he had been a town resident all of his life. A 1942 graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School, Glenn proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II in General Patton’s Army seeing action in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. Following the War, Glenn began his lengthy career in the automotive business. He worked for his father’s business, Benton Motors and later Bob Sharp Motors which later became Bruce Bennett Nissan. Glenn proudly was still working into his 93rd year. He was a life member of Fidelity-St. John’s Lodge # 3 A.F. & A. M. and a life member of the Fayerweather Yacht Club. Glenn loved boating and fishing, but above all else, spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed by his beloved daughter, Bonnie B. Lindsay and her husband David of Fairfield; two loving grandchildren, Ian Lindsay of Colorado and David Lindsay, II and his wife Ricki Ford of Fairfield; two young men Glenn considered as his grandsons, Rich Ericsson of Fairfield and Tom McCarthy of West Haven; three cherished great grandchildren, C.J., Brody and Maggie Lindsay; a sister, Beverly Woodward of Florida and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving daughter, Sue Ann Benton and a brother, Bruce Benton. The family will receive friends to celebrate Glenn’s life Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at 56 Yarrow Road in Fairfield. In lieu of flowers friends may consider a donation in Glenn’s memory to the CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.   1. I am without words but full of love and compassion for Bonnie and their children and grandchildren, also for the extended family, too many to name.

  2. After a long, rich and full life, Glenn has gone to God where he will find his wife, his brother and his daughter. And with them, he will look down on the rest of you, his wonderful family and friends. May you find comfort in each other and in the knowledge that, at every turn, you did your best to help him live his life the way he wished to. My thoughts are with you all……..

  4. My memories of my Uncle Glen (extended family) are as fond as they are long. I remember him always as a tall, sweet, gentle, smiling man with sincere happy eyes and a warm smile. He listened, heard and spoken little. He loved and was so proud of his daughters, my cousins SueAnn and Bonnie and his love of his mom and dad (Grandma and Grandpa Benton) was admirable. His journey is now moving on and we will miss him. Uncle Glen was one of the good guys, and I loved him.

Glen’s daughter Sue-Anne was my best friend in high school…He, his wife and both daughters welcomed me into their home and took care of me over the summer of 1967 when my family was in turmoil…The Benton family taught me how to laugh again during a rough time in my life…Glen was a great dad to his kids and for a short time, he was my dad too…RIP Mr. B…Give SueAnne and Mrs. B., my love.

  12. Thanks Uncle Glenn for your kindness and unconditional love. I have many fond memories of my childhood with you, Aunt Sue, SueAnn and Bonnie. I will always remember your laugh that was heard often. You kindness always made me feel special. I still have a picture of you with my son on your lap at the Aquarium at one of my trips back home. Your gifts of laughter, unconditional love and kindness qualities live on through Bonnie.

  16. I met Glenn as a customer who soon I adored. He would share stories about the war and history with me. He truly was a beautiful person who lived a full life and was so loved. I’m grateful to have met him and to have taken the time to get to know him. My thoughts are with his family and I sent deepest condolences.
